Following the hugely successful Gathering celebration that was held in Dunedin in October last year, Jeanette Kaddissi (Jeanette is Matthew Farry’s wife, for those of you who don’t know her) approached me with the idea of setting up a branch of the Cedars of Lebanon Club (COL) Dunedin, in Auckland.

The first step towards this goal was achieved on Tuesday night when I had the privilege of chairing a lively and enthusiastic meeting that was held at the Vanity Walk Modelling School in Auckland. There were many reasons put forward in favour of the above initiative, together with a myriad of ideas to support its viability and sustainability. A steering committee was formed and they will meet within the next couple of weeks to discuss how to progress the concept in the short term.

Congratulations to Jeanette for organising the above meeting. Taking the first step is often the most difficult because it takes a lot of determination, energy and conviction to take an idea and turn it into a reality.

With the enthusiasm that was exhibitied at the meeting, this could indeed mean an exciting new chapter in the history of our beloved club. We will keep you informed of developments as they occur.

Kind regards,

Richard Joseph
President
